Jeffery “Jethro” Pettigrew was shot and killed at the annual Street Vibrations motorcycle festival in Sparks, Nev. after a shootout with a rival motorcycle gang. Jeffery was the head of the San Jose Hell’s Angels chapter. The shoot out occurred after a drive by shooting that occurred hours before at the hotel/ casino. Two members of the Vagos Motorcycle Club also were wounded in the shooting. Leonard Ramirez,  who was shot in the abdomen, and Diego Garcia, who was shot in the leg belonged to the Vagos club.

The festival was expecting 30,000 visitors, with live music and other festivals which were cancelled by the mayor Geno Martini, who called the city under a formal state of emergency. He canceled the festival all together because after the first shooting things continued to spiral out of control. Martini wanted the residents to feel safe. The Casino was put on lock down until further notice and the hospital required extra security.

The first man shot in the drive by has yet to be identified for his protection. Many people have been arrested due to the gang fight and surveillance tape that has been brought as evidence in the search for Pettigrew’s murderer. The city has been put on high alert and all motorcycle members were sent out-of-town and asked to leave. There are no leads so far in Pettigrew’s murder case.

The Week of Sept. 18, 2011

I thought I would start this blog off right by talking about the awful things that have happened in the past 604,800 seconds, which is a week if no one has managed to catch on yet. Starting off with the bad than introducing the good will leave you on a good note, like the end of a Disney movie; bad things happen but it ends with a happy ending.

Ok, starting off with the bad. The University of Oklahoma  won their game. Enough said there. If Oklahoma State University would have lost, this week would have been a bad week, but that is another story. OU played Missouri on Sept. 24, 2011 and won by ten points, leaving the score 38-28. Also, another bad thing that happened this week, the global stock took a tumble and decreased by five percent. The economy in the United States is bad enough, I can only imagine how this will affect us all.

Now, to get to the amazing things that happened this week (there are three). Joshua Fattal and Shane Bauer returned to America this past week after being held in Iran for more than two years. You remember them right? Three American hikers which were supposedly spies? Yeah, ok now we are on the same page. Well, they returned home Sept. 24, 2011 and were greeted by family as well as Sarah Shroud, who was released last year. Secondly, on Sept. 24, 2011, the Oklahoma State Cowboys beat Texas A & M 30-29 after a heated game played by both parts.  I consider the past 604,800 amazing. I certainly hope the next 604,800 hours end up being the same.
